POLYGAMY

My good friend and blogging giant JT posts a very helpful article by Andreas Kostenberger about the biblical support against polygamy. Click here to read it.

Can I ask a practical question at this point? Are there any in Christendom that really are down with polgomy and need to be convinced otherwise from scripture?

Z, a couple thoughts. 1) I agree that within the body of believers, the case would be rare if ever that you would have to convince another believer that polygomy is unscriptural. However, I think there could be times in conversation with an unbeliever that you may need to be able to give a biblical argument against polygomy. 2) In seeking to understand "the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:27) we should desire to understand what Scripture has to say on polygomy. If God chose to reveal it, we should desire to understand it. 3) I was just glad to see your question and encouraged that anybody is looking at this blog.

Another answer to your question Z...there are people in "Christndom" that are biblically illiterate, and doctrinally illiterate. There are people in "Christendom" that don't know what the Bible says about homosexuality, egalitarianism vs. complimentarianism, perfectionism vs. non-perfectionism...etc. In this day and age when people think that the "Da Vinci Code" is a truthful representation of what Christianity is we have to support every doctrinal point biblically.

The issue of polygamy is one that we especially have to support biblically because in our culture if homosexuality is accepted what is there to say that other sexual sins are wrong biblically. Polygamy is one of the next logical steps in that progression.

Everything the bible says is practical in my opinion.

In Christ
Noah
